Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) has been rebranded to Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM). Urban Airship apps using GCM today should experience no issues, but Google strongly recommends that you upgrade your Android push notification transport system to Firebase as soon as possible.
Get your API Key from Google¶
In order to configure your Urban Airship application for FCM/GCM, you must first obtain an API key from Google.
Go to the Firebase site.
Click Create New Project, enter a project name, then click Create Project:
Click the gear icon, then select Project settings.
Select Cloud Messaging from the options at the top of the screen, then copy the Server key and Sender ID to be used later for the Urban Airship SDK Setup.
Configure FCM/GCM Service with Urban Airship¶
In the UA web application, go to your app, click the Engage tab, then click the Settings icon and select Services to set up your application with GCM:
Add your FCM/GCM API Key from Google and your package here:
